Dear Unilever,

I recently purchased a carton of your ice cream, and I felt disappointed and misled by the advertising on the packaging; it claimed to be “Loaded with Stuff”. However, I found it lacking in the “stuff” department. Especially in comparison to other ice cream brands like the Oreo branded ice cream or the entire range of Haagendaz ice creams that contain, well, stuff.

As a connoisseur of ice cream, I would recommend that you cease to use the word “loaded” when it obviously lacks what any reasonable ice cream connoisseur would expect to receive in a “loaded” carton of milky, gooey goodness.

I would clarify my point by saying that I still enjoyed the carton and easily devoured it within a matter of hours. In fact it was absolutely delish! Regardless, it left me feeling cantankerous and somewhat ornery as the advertisement cheated my expectations. For that reason I am taking advantage of the formal process of writing you a letter and enclosing the UPC.

Sincerely,

A concerned ice cream connoisseur

  1. I have to disagree. I found sufficient “stuff” in my Breyers ice cream. However I found it severely lacking in ice cream, instead being composed of some sort of disgusting palm oil, sugar, and modified milk ingredient emulsion. This is pretty much the worst “ice cream” I’ve ever had, and it’s now causing my gut to churn after two spoonfuls.

  2. Well, I’m happy to report that Breyers did in fact live up to their satisfaction guarantee and sent me a coupon for some more Breyers products which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I never noticed anything bad about the ice cream itself, but then again, you might be more of an ice cream connoisseur than I am!

We eat between 5-7 cartons (my son told me I was incorrect when telling Bryers how much we ate) of Byers Ice Cream per and we found what looked and tasted like rubber in the Bryers Twix about 4 months ago. About a month ago we had a Peach and it tasted of spoiled rotten milk. I wrote to Bryers and they sent a letter and coupons. Well, we brought Bryers Peach a few days ago and again it has taste and smell of rotten milk. I told Bryers that being how much we buy that the odds of bad ones were not very high. But now the odds of 2 in a month it’s getting high. Being that we spend so much on buying Bryers products I felt one free carton is not enough to recieve from the company. At this point we deserve a year of free Bryers and the same amount that we buy every month. Maybe we should be taste testers for Bryers. I am sure that total to be 20 or more cartons per month. I keep most of my grocery receipts so I do have a record. I will try to get them together so I have the amount in black and white. Disappointed in NC.

Oh and I would also like to see others commments.

  5. What happened to Breyers ice cream? I recently purchased a Vanilla in the blue box and it tasted ‘off.’ I thought it was a bad box so tried again a few weeks later, still had that terrible taste.

It tasted like it had gone bad or like the cardboard box had somehow flavoured the ice cream. Swearing never to buy Breyers again, I couldn’t pass up the recent sale and this time picked up their cookie dough product (I figured it would likely be made in a different factory anyways.) It wasn’t and it had the same terrible taste. What in the world are they thinking? Do people like this new taste?!!!…

  7. I agree with you about the blue box ice cream carton comment. This is their new Smooth and Dreamy low-fat version, and I have bought several containers and it is discolored, icy, and tasteless. I wrote to Breyer’s and they sent me some coupons to try some cartons free, which I did. Their regular versions are “ok”, but I am staying away from the low-fat cardboard, freezer burned blue carton variety.

  8. I bought a box of Breyers vanilla at the grocery recently. It was terrible, nothing at all like the Breyers of old. Next time shopping I bought the Food Lion store brand ice cream. It was actually pretty good, much better than Breyers. My family is very disappointed with the new Breyers, we don’t intend to buy any more of it.
